Skills Categories
Skills categories are intended to organize activities by what the participant will get from performing the activity. By programming with skills categories rather than just randomly scheduling an activity you will be more likely to offer a balance of activities that will meet the needs of your participants.
Skills categories are as followes:
Activities for Daily Living:This category is intended to give the particpants practice performing day to day activities that one needs to be more independent. This could be cooking, dressing, shopping, or anything that you and I might do on a daily basis.
Education:This category is intended to teach or improve ones understanding on a certain topic. This category is much like school as it stresses the importance for everyone to have a firm grasp on reading and basic math skills.
Enrichment: This category is based on the arts. Finding ways to express ourselves is an important part of being human.
Health & Recreation: This skills category is intended to find joy and balance in life through exercise, sports, and leisure activities.
Sensory: This skills category is intended to engage the participants senses of sight, taste, hearing, touch, and smell.
Below are a list of the categories with an ever expanding option of general based (not a specific lesson plan but an idea of where to start) activities in each group.
